Today, we went on a Scavenger Hunt searching for the numbers 0-9. We walked all around Calvert School! There were numbers in the classroom, the hallway and even the lobby. Students discovered that when they found a number with more than one digit, they could mark multiple columns to create that number!

Doodle D. Dog
Doodle D. Dog
Doodle D. Dog just loves to draw
There's always a crayon in his paw
He draws daisies and ducks
And delightful dump trucks
And the fanciest doghouse you ever saw!
Today we determined which pictures Doodle D. Dog would draw. He only likes to draw things that begin with the letter "D"!

Roll, Slide, Stack
Today, we learn which 3-dimensional shapes can roll, slide and stack. I challenged the students to race each solid shape down the carpet and back without picking the shape up or throwing it. We found that the cube had to slide across the carpet. The sphere rolled. We discovered that the cylinder and cone could roll AND slide.
Later, we discovered that 3-dimensional shapes make up our city! Building can be cylinders, cubes, pyramids, spheres or rectangular prisms. We used skyline pictures from around the world to inspire our own city creations.
Great work!
D Week!
It's D Week here in Language Arts!
For technology day, we used the iPads to explore the letter of the week. In Doodle Buddy, we practiced writing the letter D and drew pictures whose name began with the letter D.

Shapes Competition!
Today to test our knowledge on shapes, we divided into teams of two. I described a two-dimensional shape to the class and each team had to determine which shape I was describing! Then, they had to draw the correct shape on the white board in order to win a point. Great job identifying plane figures, Pilots!
Learning About Shapes!
In Math, we have been learning about Plane Figures or 2D shapes. We have learned how to describe attributes of two-dimensional figures and even made our own picture creations out of triangles, rectangles, squares and diamonds!
